Family owned and operated since 1957, the Virginia Florist has served Alexandria and the greater Washington, D.C., area for nearly 50 years. Owners Kevin and Kathy Green were profiled earlier this year in My Generation magazine and recently featured on the cover of Floral Management (above), the national trade journal of the Society of American Florists.

Senior floral designer Shakeela Doskas (above) was named Washington's best last year in a citywide design competition. Born in Trinidad, she buys our flowers and ensures that we always have an exotic selection. Jacqueline is Shakeela's aide-de-camp, supported by Chieko, trained in Japan and a master of contemporary ikebana, and Brooke, a Virginian with a classic sense of style.

Skilled interior designer Anne Allen, helped by designing women Heidi, Craig, and Machele, directs our retail business, which ranges from fresh-cut flowers to highly imaginative gourmet/fruit baskets, unusual gifts, rare fragrances, fine art, selected American antiques, and (exclusively ours) one-of-a-kind teddy bears clad in varsity letter-sweaters from the local schools.

Our shop is open from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday and from Noon to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday.

We specialize in fresh-cut flowers, including exotic tropicals, green and blooming plants, and European and English dish gardens. Our designers are known for excellent contemporary and traditional arrangements, and particularly sought for weddings. We are also well known for our funeral designs. We carry an extensive line of gifts, including teddy bears (2002 is their centennial year), greeting cards, and both latex and mylar balloons. Corporate and private clients often request our superb gourmet/fruit baskets, for which we maintain our own extensive inventory of gourmet items. We deliver to all hospitals, funeral homes, and cemeteries in Northern Virginia and D.C. Your satisfaction is always guaranteed.

A local delivery fee of $10.00 will be added to each order, for each address. (For deliveries outside our local delivery area, this fee may vary.)

U.S. orders must be received before 1:00 p.m. in the recipient's time zone to assure same-day delivery. Orders received after that time will be delivered the following day.

We will do our best to accommodate deliveries at specific times of day, but we cannot guarantee it.

We are unable to make deliveries on Sundays. Deliveries requested on this day will be delivered the following business day.

Delivery of orders to rural route addresses or cemeteries cannot be guaranteed.

We will be happy to accept your international orders if you call our shop directly. We are unable to accept international orders over the Internet.

Occasionally, substitutions may be necessary to create your bouquet due to the availability of certain flowers in various parts of the country. Care is taken to maintain the style, theme and color scheme of the arrangement, using flowers of equal value. Additionally, the substitution of certain keepsake items may be necessary due to increased demand, especially during major holidays. In single-flower arrangements, such as an all rose bouquet, or orchids, we will make every attempt to match the flower type, but may substitute with another color.
